Year 12 Laptops
A reminder that this year, for the first time, parents of Year 12 boys have the option of buying their son's laptops. It is important that boys have a full backup of their laptop on Friday 27 November if they are intending to keep any of their files and documents. Those who are not buying their laptop are also encouraged to have a full backup so they can keep a copy of their last two years' work.
Year 10 Laptop Rollover - October 12 and 13
At Scotch, we act to ensure that your son has access to reliable and up-to-date technology to complete his studies. Parents who have a son in Year 10-2015 are reminded that they must select one of two dates for their son to come into the College and receive his new laptop. As part of this process we request that you ask your son about his current backup and ensure that he has made an up to date Time Machine backup of his school work. Students will be reminded of this during the coming two weeks and those who are having trouble are directed to attend the Tech Centre as soon as possible.
Year 11 and 12 Extended Library - OSC Tutors
Parents and boys are reminded that once again, the Old Scotch Collegians tutoring programme is running during extended library hours. Tutors in various subjects (topics covered are subject to availability of the tutors) will be on site from 4.00pm to 7.00pm Monday to Wednesday until the next holidays. For further information on this, please contact library@scotch.wa.edu.au.
Library Services for Parents
Parents are reminded that they have full access to the Library eBook Collection and any resource on the following link https://my.scotch.wa.edu.au/seniorlibrary/databases. Simply use your Scotch- issued ID and password to login. I can highly recommend the Library PressDisplay which has newspapers and magazines from across the world.
Gallery is an important new initiative for the College - a service that stores and maintains an ongoing collection of photos from across the Scotch community. Parents are encouraged to login to view and also contribute to the Gallery and this can be easily done by viewing this article on ask.SCOTCH http://ask.scotch.wa.edu.au/faq/85483. The gallery can be accessed from home.SCOTCH or from the various library pages.
Speaking of ask.SCOTCH, this is another new service we have released this term which contains a collection of helpful answers and instructions for IT and Library questions. Boys are encouraged to use this as a first step in finding information and when nothing fits your question, simply submit a question and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Library Charges to Accounts
The library tries very hard to avoid charging for overdue items, however, parents may see a charge on their School account if a book or piece of equipment has been overdue for more than 3 months. Boys are reminded a number of times to return their items, but when this fails we are left with no recourse but to purchase a new copy of the item. Parents who find the item after a charge has been placed on the account are asked to keep it as the item will have already been replaced.
