Wind Around the Home 7PG

The boys of 7PG have recently been investigating methods of utilising renewable resources around the home. A renewable resource is something that people use that replenishes itself at a faster rate than it is used. They also learnt that some resources, such as trees, could be considered a renewable resource if they were used sustainably but if cut down too quickly would be a non-renewable resource. Part of a Science investigation required them to explore the most suitable location to place a small wind turbine to help provide power to their home. After learning about the difference between a vertical axis wind turbine and a horizontal axis wind turbine the boys created a small device to help them measure the strength of the wind and recorded results over the course of the week. As a result of the experiment the boys were able to determine that the best possible choice of wind turbine would be a vertical axis because the horizontal axis requires "clean" wind that is not always possible around the home.
