Looking back to look forward

Reflective: We thoughtfully consider the work and our own ideas and experiences. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development. (IBO MTPYPH)

Mid-way through the school year is always marked with assessments and semester reporting. This year the Junior School revamped our written reports to provide a detailed and informative reflection on the progress, achievement and engagement of each boy. Reflecting on what the boys have achieved and need to further consolidate allows us to better plan for what to address moving forward.

As teachers, we constantly reflect on the boys' learning through formative assessment practices and ongoing review of their work. This allows us to plan for individual needs. We have structures in place that ensure the boys are responsible for reflecting on their own work and learning.

The Student Led Conferences are a celebration of the achievement and engagement of the boys and are intended to keep parents informed about their son's learning as well as to provide an opportunity for active participation in a snapshot of their son's day at school. This week's Student Led Conferences are a brilliant opportunity for parents to engage in a reflective activity. The boys will lead their parents through the learning they have been engrossed in throughout Semester 1. They will share their success and challenges and parents will be able to see areas where the boys will need further development and support. An important aspect of the Student Led Conference is the goal setting for future improvement the boys will do in partnership with their parents.

Supporting this process is the openness of our teachers to meet with and discuss how we are planning for future development and what can be done at home to support this. I encourage all parents to join with their son for the conference.
