Welcome back to Autumn Term. I trust all families took the opportunity to recharge over the Easter break and that the boys tried to slow down the pace and number of their commitments.
Week 1 has already proved to be very busy. Well done to Mr Stewart and the Junior School on celebrating ANZAC Day with such a special ceremony. The boys read well and the ceremony provided a very poignant reminder of ANZAC DAY for all of the boys, staff and parents that were in attendance. Week 1 finished with our Scottish Banquet. Congratulations to everyone involved in putting on such a fantastic evening. The move to the Dickinson Centre proved a great success nearly doubling the numbers of parents that chose to attend.
The early part of this term will be particularly busy for our senior boys who face their major examinations this week. Likewise the Year 10 boys have a very busy month of May as they face major decisions about which course to do in Year 11 and which subjects to choose within their chosen course. All Year 10 families will receive an email about this process plus a Youtube video outlining the upcoming meetings and issues pertaining to the selection process.
You may have noticed in this week's press that we have advertised two very important positions for the College; the Director of Teaching and Learning and the Head of Residential Life. Should you know any suitable candidates please feel free to point them to our website for further information. Both of these positions are senior and central to what we do as a College.
Before the break, I circulated a survey regarding the possible extension of the mid-year break. Thank you to all who took the time to respond to this very important survey. The College Executive will be meeting to discuss the results of both the staff and parent responses. I hope to inform the community of the outcome of our deliberations within the next fortnight.
We will be embarking on the last few Capital briefings over the next couple of weeks. I would like to reiterate my thanks for all those who have already attended one of the sessions. They have proved to be invaluable for many reasons.
Finally, it was great to see the number of parents and students down at our ovals this week as we commenced both the JPSSA and PSA winter sport schedule.
Have a great fortnight.
Dr Alec O'Connell
