Great Mental Maths app

In Term 1, during the Parent Engagement Workshops (PEWs), parents had the opportunity to learn about the importance of mental mathematics, play Numero, and discover other great mathematics games to play at home.

The iPad can be a valuable tool to use as part of your son's mental mathematics practice. One app that will support mental mathematics development is Math Bingo. Your son can download Math Bingo from the Scotch self-service when at school and it can then be used at home alongside Numero or other mathematics games to help reinforce various mental mathematics strategies.

The object of Math Bingo is to get a pattern of five Bingo Bugs in a row by correctly answering mathematics problems. Math problems are presented at the top of the game screen. Correct solutions to problems answered incorrectly are displayed. The boys can choose the different operations and also the level of difficulty. Your son's teacher may at times set a particular operation or level of difficulty for homework.

As the app allows for multiple players, parents can also sign in have a go and try to beat their own best time or score.

Mental mathematics takes a lot of practice. Little and often, with a variety of resources is definitely the key.
