Welcome to the final Thistle for 2013.

Recently, I spoke at several forums regarding the concept of a community giving back. In addressing this topic I emphasised that the Christmas period, as we understand it, can quite often be the worst time of year for a lot of families; where those from less fortunate backgrounds may feel a heightened sensitivity to the reality of their personal situation. As such, it is important that where possible we take every opportunity either individually or collectively to give back to those in our community who may face challenges and hardships that we may never have to endure. One of the great things about the boys at Scotch from Years 1 - 12 is their incredible sense of service and I know that they will make the opportunity to assist others in whatever means or way possible.

Congratulations to all of our 2013 graduating Year 12s who celebrated their Valedictory Dinner on Friday night. It was a fitting way for us to acknowledge the role they have played in leading our student community and I know that on behalf of everyone we wish them well with their examination results and their chosen paths in 2014. In particular, I would like to thank the Mothers' Auxiliary for the role they played in making the night such a huge success.
This week marks a week of great celebrations for our College in the form of our Junior School Presentation afternoon and the Middle and Senior School Speech Nights. Yet again these events offer us the opportunity to celebrate everything that is great about our College. In particular I would like to wish our Year 5s and 7s all the very best as they transition to Middle School and Senior School respectively.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their ongoing support and commitment to the education and development of our boys. There can be no more important role in society than shaping our future leaders. Furthermore, to everyone who has volunteered or has carried out work on behalf of the College thank you. The level of voluntary support is what continues to make us different at Scotch.
Finally, on behalf of my family and myself I would like to thank you for your support and I look forward to another exciting year ahead.
