The Importance of Family
Last Friday night we said thank you and farewell to our leaving Year 12 boys at the Valedictory Dinner. It was a wonderful night that began with a chapel service before moving to the Dickinson Centre for dinner. The venue was spectacular, being prepared by the Mothers' Auxiliary. The delicious meal prepared by our own Scotch catering staff and served by 78 boys in the current Year 12 cohort, was enjoyed by all 600 guests. The dinner began with a message from the Chair of Council, Mr Richard Goyder. He reminded us all of the importance of connection and the power of a simple gesture. As part of Mr Goyder's presentation, every boy in Year 12 hugged his parents.
The highlight of the night was an inspirational speech by Mr Bradley. He made us all laugh; boys, parents and staff, and he made us think. Mr Bradley, through his powerful story left us all thinking deeply about our futures and the importance of family. At this time of year, with Christmas now less than four weeks away, Mr Bradley's message about family could not have been more poignant. Both Mr Richard Goyder and Mr Matt Bradley left us appreciating the true meaning of family. At this time of the year I wish all families a happy and joyous time together and encourage all boys to express their appreciation and love for their family through simple, yet powerful gestures such as a hug or the expression of gratitude and love.
On a personal note, I thank the Scotch College community for making my first year one of great reward and experience. The year has been filled with highlights and will remain one I will remember fondly.
I wish all boys and their families a happy and holy Christmas.
