An Historic Moment in Middle School History

It was a history-making day in Middle School last Tuesday with the opening of the new Middle School building to students. The excitement was tangible with the hidden curves of the building, the two levels and the coloured carpets leading boys on an exciting trail of discovery and exclamation. It is fair to say the Middle School teachers were in a similar state of excitement and discovery when they were given access the week before to move in.

For the last four years we have been designing, creating and building a Middle School culture, defining our purpose, establishing an ethos and a set of practices that best meets the learning and development needs for young adolescent boys. This week we were able to match that philosophy with a building that supports this goal. I look forward to showing the building to you over the coming term. From our second level of the new building we will have ringside seats to first watch the demolition and then the development of Phase Two; our new Library, Gallery, Multipurpose and Art rooms.

Spring Term News and Reminders

Summer Uniform is expected from the commencement of Week 2. A "no hat no play in the sun" policy has come into force for this term and this will continue in Summer Term next year. Summer sport fixtures have commenced and a hat is vital for each sport, to wear when playing sport and also to wear when moving to and from venues or between games.

Cricket Bags: It is not necessary for boys to bring their own gear to cricket; we have the capacity to supply all that a boy will require. However, for those boys that wish to bring their own gear, this will be stored and accessed from the basement of MacKellar Hall. Bags need to be delivered and stored before 8.30am, after this the door will be shut. It will be opened up at lunchtime for sport and after school for training.

Access to Middle School

We will continue to live with a building program for another three terms and at times parking, pick up and drop off will be difficult. There is no vehicle entry or parking off Saunders Street. This is a trades and deliveries entry only. Our main vehicle entry and exit is via Stirling Road, with set down at MacKellar Hall. I am hoping that with the Shenton Road Underpass and the relocation of our Cross Walk Attendant more boys will be able to catch the train to school and walk across campus.
