Over the last two months I've been very privileged to attend the forty year and thirty year reunions of the Classes of 1973 and 1983.
A strong gathering for the 1973 cohort of movers and shakers were seen later in the evening at the Cottesloe Hotel front bar, and not to be outdone a month later, there was an extraordinary turn-out for the Class of 1983 with some sixty ex-scholars in attendance with reports coming back to me that there was a rout of ex-scholars seen at Club Bayview!
What has certainly struck me is the strong sense of community that exists amongst our old boys. Ex-scholars having travelled to reunions from as far as London & Dubai (and certain OSCs missing their flights and jumping on the next available aircraft) to head towards Scotch, and meet former classmates.
Observing conversations in the room I'm compelled to comment on how supportive OSCs are towards each other - sharing and commiserating, toasting each other's successes, comparing their lives' journeys, and being genuinely pleased to hear each other's triumphs and tribulations. Of course, sometimes, the short-hand for all of that is simply "great to see you, mate!"
But the evidence is there - our community is strong and thriving.
I'll report further but our Founders Day Dinner last Friday was an incredible success, with strong attendance from younger cohorts and an engaging and entertaining discourse from our speaker John Hughes.
Our last social function for the year will be our annual Sundowner in November with the date and venue shortly to be advised where I hope to catch up with many OSCs.
