The Scotch Parents Association, together with the PLC Parents Committee, were proud to welcome Sonya Ryan to a presentation to both Schools' parent groups to address cyber safety and raise awareness of the everyday things we as parents can do to be more involved in issues that may arise in our childrens' online experiences.

Sonya tragically lost her daughter Carly to an online predator and has since dedicated herself to the promotion of internet safety through the Carly Ryan Foundation. Sonya's work has seen her awarded the 2013 South Australian of the Year and nominated for the national award.

The presentation to the parent group followed an initiative of Ellen Frodsham and Daniel Bloch, both Year 11 students - (from PLC and Scotch respectively) who attended Sonya's presentation at the Amanda Young "Young Leaders Summit" http://www.amandayoungfoundation.org.au/young_leaders_summit/young_leaders_summit.phtml earlier in the year and felt that it would be really beneficial for Year 9 students to listen to Sonya.

These two young leaders prepared outstanding and compelling presentations to each schools' Parent Association and were granted funding by the PA's to bring Sonya to Perth to address the year 9 cohorts at PLC on Wednesday 21st August.

Both Parent Associations took advantage of Sonya's availability for her presentation to the students to address interested parents in a separate forum.

Sonya's presentation provided some powerful insights and left those who attended us all more aware of techniques to address some of the hazards of the online world.
