Trinity 17.10 defeated Scotch 1.4

Another tough day at the office against a much stronger and faster opponent. Most weeks we have found ourselves going up against sides that are physically more advanced but it has not had an affect on the positive attitude and the consistent effort displayed by the boys week in week out. This season I have put a heavy emphasis on contested work (tackling, ball winning) and the lads have improved out of sight and are highly competitive in this department each week. Where we struggle is our ball use and decision-making going forward. In my eyes this season had laid the perfect platform for Year nine footballs where they can carry the same competitive mindset but will be bigger and stronger, and more able to compete with Schools.

Hale 21.14 defeated Scotch 3.4

Scotch were well and truly competitive in the first quarter and poor kicking cost us dearly. We played tough contested football in the first half but we fell away from our plans in the second. The basics were not followed. Too many free Hale School players and not having the run was an issue in the second half. Hale were a strong and fit side who broke quickly from defense and got us on the break. We toiled for the entire game but we were beaten by a very drilled and fit side. Some of our best players were Josland across the back line, Moore and Porter up front. Paganin was very good until he was injured. But the three best on the day were Vlahov, Komarzynski and Ryder. They were on the ball all game and did not stop running and making a contest. They set terrific standards and led from the front. Hutcherson, Evans, Stacey and Aitken also tried hard.

Scotch 23.14 (152) defeated Trinity 2.3 (15)

A convincing win going into out theoretical grand final against Hale in two weeks time. It was the first time the group had out in a percent fourth quarter effort as a team really accelerating in the 4th putting on eight goals. H. Goodlet kicked 6 and S. Young 5. Our backlit was a solid as ever with M. Mann, H. Horko T. Holland and B. Ryan, in his first game since round 2, solid as ever to keep trinity to 2 goals from numerous attempts

Scotch 12.15 (87) defeated Trinity 10.9 (69)

Scotch travelled to Waterford for their return leg against Trinity for what was to be an exciting game. Trinity were quick out of the blocks with a key focus to move the ball long and forward at all costs resulting in the first five goals of the match before the midway mark of the term. Although not reflective on the scoreboard Scotch had settled into the match by the end of the first quarter. With a few minor adjustments and the ability to implement these on field immediatley. Scotch began to find the footy shutting down any Trinity players caught moving through the contest making sure the ball did not leave the area with ease unless it was in a Scotch players hands. The increase in tempo in every position around the ground with the directed challenge, How can you impact the game for your team? turned the deficit at quarter time into a 1 point half time lead. The players ruthless ability to win the football first then deliver quick controlled decisions in the 2nd half provided predictability to each team member allowing Scotch to come away with the win. To witness the backs, midfielders and forwards continually develop their roles selflessly, providing opportunity for their team to complete in a 1v1 contest was pleasing. However the ability to implement instruction immediately whilst increasing their intensity for the ball and contest marks a leadership quality that every player takes ownership to drive themselves to relentlessly compete for what they want.

Scotch 11 (Ollie Harding 3, Alastair Murray 2, Tim Reynolds 2) defeated Trinity 0

Scotch College won very comfortably against a team which relied on a few skilled individuals. The passing was of a high standard and the conversion rate from the forwards was excellent. All players contributed strongly but special mention goes to Tim Reynolds who worked hard and made good decisions, Ollie Harding who was always dangerous and showed better use of short passing and Josh Pearson who marshalled the defence well.

A great win by the boys. We pushed hard from the start and forced Trinity to score an early own-goal. We maintained the pressure and scored 5 goals of our own, with 2 to Barblett, 2 to Keily and 1 to Kosterich. This is the best that the boys have played all year. Well done.

Scotch 2 defeated Trinity 1

The ground at Trinity was very tricky and the Scotch team adapted well to it, trying very hard to move the ball quickly and powerfully. Our press made it very hard for Trinity to get the ball out and from of their errors Jack Dowland was able to sneak in and slide the ball home with a brave dive. We continued to dominate and from a corner rebound Co-Captain Josh Taylor hammered home to give us a deserved lead. However, Trinity pulled one back near half time with a quick counter attack. Our second half was strong and we had some good chances but were unable to convert. We managed to turn the first round 1-1 draw into a strong win away from home. McLeod was good again, Greenland looked good on the ball, and Will Trench was very composed at the back

Scotch 22 defeated Trinity 7

Three key players were missing and Scotch always knew that their match against the second placed Trinity College was going to be tough. The boys started with enthusiasm and it soon became clear that they were up against a much more organised and disciplined unit than they had faced in the past. Following some good lead-up play, outside centre Josh Quatermaine was able to muscle his way over for the first try of the match. The second half saw the boys take it up another gear and two quick tries to Jamie Walker and Sean Szalek swung the game strongly in Scotch's Favour. Connor Enslin was also able to sneak his way over the line later in the second half to secure the result. A late try to Trinity gave Scotch a little scare but it was too little too late. Some key features of the victory were the boy's urgency to get up on defence and shut down the opposition attack. Some excellent work at the breakdown from loose forwards Connor O'Sullivan, Sean Szalek and Hugh Edwards also resulted in a number of turnovers. Archie Capon also showed tremendous commitment in his final match swooping in to secure a loose kick with numerous opposition players looming. This was a good result following a tough grinding encounter. Well-done boys.

7Bs played a round robin with Hale School and Trinity College.

Hale 19 defeated Scotch and Scotch 14 defeated Trinity 5

After a strong performance last week Scotch was looking to back it up again this week. Unfortunately Scotch got off to a bad start against Hale with their tackling being the biggest problem. Hale managed to score two quick tries, which seemed to unsettle the team. Scotch did turn it around in their second game with their one on one tackles and linking play being much better. An intercept try to Ben Kelly was a sign of Scotch's strong pressure on Trinity who did well to try and stop the constant Scotch attack. It was a little disappointing after last week's strong game but it's good to see the boys constantly improving and working better as a team as each week goes by.

Scotch 34 defeated Trinity

After a disappointing draw against Guildford last week, Scotch were looking to bounce back against top of the table Trinity. From the first whistle the game was played at a higher pace and intensity than all previous games, Scotch knowing they would have to be at their best to deny a skillful Trinity. The well organised Scotch defense held strong till half time, with the best chance of the half coming to Lachlan Chapman, whose attempted chip of the 'keeper from 30 yards was denied only by the woodwork. The half-time score 0-0. In the second half, the arm-wrestle continued, with Trinity piling on the pressure in midfield. A determined Scotch defended in numbers as Trinity dominated the play for almost 20 minutes. Tensions grew, Trinity becoming frustrated with not scoring despite having the majority of possession, but Scotch absorbed the pressure manfully then bounced. A long throw from Michael Mailes ricocheted to the edge of the box, finding Lachlan Chapman. Chapman dibbled away from goals, beat two defenders then pivotted on the corner of the box and chipped the ball towards the top corner of the net. A desperate dive from the Trinity 'keeper was to no avail, and Scotch lead 1-0 to the roar of the Scotch crowd. With Trinity's morale broken, the floodgates opened. 4 minutes later, another 40 metre throw from Michael Mailes confused the Trinity defence and 'keeper, with the ball being bungled into the back of the net. An own goal and Scotch lead 2-0. 2 minutes later, a 50 metre throw in from Michael Mailes flew past every player except for Paris Young on the back post who slotted home from short range to extend the lead to 3-0. With 3 minutes left to play, Trinity scored a consolation goal, leaving Scotch to celebrate a rare 3-1 win at Trinity's home ground. Credit must be given to the whole team's defensive efforts, lead by centre back Tom Sheridan, which was the key factor in this week's win. It goes without saying that Michael Mailes' freakish ability to throw a ball further any man before him, will become legendary at Scotch College for decades to come.

Trinity 29 defeated Scotch 0

Eager for some redemption from last week's result, Scotch started off the match as the dominant team. An aggressive offensive push saw Scotch restricting Trinity to their own 10 metre line for most of the first half, but Scotch was unable to take advantage of their chances and put any points on the board. While Scotch's defense was looking more impressive, mistakes and handling errors led to several turnovers, and Trinity was able to capitalise on these mistakes with break away tries. This was an unfortunate match for Scotch as they played very well and the scoreboard certainly did not reflect their performance. If Scotch's ball security had been better and they had been able to spread the ball wide in attack, then the result would undoubtedly have been different in Scotch's favour.

The boys worked hard for the entire game having a couple of really good opportunities to score that did not connect. Trinity kept us under pressure for the entire match with some fancy saves by Lawson in goals along with desperate defense to keep them out of the goals.

Trinity 2 defeated Scotch 1

The Scotch boys knew we faced a tough game as Trinity had just beaten Christ Church 8-1 in their last game. We started the game well but two defensive lapses seen Trinity take an undeserved 2-0 lead after eight minutes. The Scotch boys then showed great determination & belief to hold their opponents until half-time at 2-0. The second half seen an increased effort from the Scotch team, with the balance of play now much more even. After a flowing move from left to right, Jack Bardsley volleyed the ball into the back of the net to reduce the deficit to 2-1. Christian Kyriakou then had a 25-yard shot tipped on to the crossbar by the Trinity keeper.

Scotch continued to press for the equaliser right up until the last seconds of the game & it was a mark of how hard we'd pushed Trinity when they punched the air with relief at the final whistle, knowing they'd been in a real tough game. Well done to all 13 boys for giving 100 percent.

Scotch played their best game of the season and won 3-2, with Tim scoring a goal two minutes from time to win it against a strong trinity side. Trinity were very nice as they had 10 players while we only had 8, but they played 8 v 8. It was definitely the best we've played all season and every boy had a great game, especially James who scored a goal and helped with the other two.

Squandered chances early in the game where we should have easily taken the lead but Trinity College scored first. Matt scored for us from a corner that beat everyone finally arriving at far corner of 18 yard box. Chatt scored in second half after an excellent solo effort. Charlie and Declan carrying niggling injuries which clearly did not help. Defense still not marking when attack progresses down flanks, ball watching and not picking up Trinity players who were prepared to move backwards to find space. Josh made two outstanding saves very good Goal keeping prospect and 10As most improved player.

Scotch 1 defeated Trinity 0

The 10C's fought hard to pull off a 1-0 victory against a talented Trinity outfit. With only 10 players, it was a tough game against 16 Trinity boys who were up for the contest. Scotch were given two Trinity players in order to ensure no one was sitting on the bench for too long. After an evenly contested 50 minutes, with the only breakthrough coming from a scotch penalty, the game was brought into disrepute as a Trinity boy playing on the Scotch team stuck his hand in the air to grab the ball and give Trinity a penalty. Luckily, the coach was in good spirits and told his player to miss the penalty on purpose, as this would have been unfair on the Scotch boys who worked hard for their lead. The game ended 1-0 and the Scotch boys went home happy.

Scotch 7 defeated Trinity 2

The seconds team beat Trinity 7 matches to 2 on Saturday. Scotch showed depth with excellent wins in five of the six singles matches. Scotch then combined well to win two of the three doubles matches. All boys in this team are showing good improvement from the start of the year, which is pleasing to see as most will be stepping up into the firsts team in 2014.

Scotch 5 defeated Trinity 4

Scotch played Trinity on Saturday in a very closely fought encounter. Trinity started well winning the first two singles matches and ended up 4-2 up after the six singles matches. Good singles wins to Rob Pluske and Tetsuya Yokota. With a slight change to the rules regarding doubles pairings, Scotch had to play with two new doubles pairings who have not trained together. Scotch showed great heart and 'on the run' team work to win all three doubles matches to win the meeting 5-4. Although this was not the team's best score line for the season, it was certainly their most gutsy win. All players should be congratulated.

Scotch 4th in 5km race

Held in perfect conditions and in a beautiful environment our 4th placing

was achieved due to a real gutsy performance from the entire team, without exception. Captain Doug Foulkes-Taylor again ran an outstanding race, running neck and neck with the Aquinas runner. While Doug gave every ounce of energy he, for the second time, was outsprinted to the finishing line. The efforts of Alex Smith, Tom Walker, Max Locke, Lawson Shaw and Dylan. Flecker deserve special mention. All four boys have trained very, very hard including holiday training and they all ran their best races for the season. Their efforts were supported by Harry Wiffen (14th), Denver Quantrill, Alex Brown, Joshua Jones, Abe Potter, Angus MacLeod, Chase Deitner, Jack Varney, Arrigo Brackenridge, Fletcher Wolpers, Campbell Shaw and James Abernathy, all of whom ran themselves to exhaustion. The efforts of all our runners were fantastic and testimony to their great character. This week we have the 3 man x 5km race at home.
