During my first week in Junior School, I was fortunate to see the College Mission: to build boys of character, in action.

The great thing about sporting competition is the challenge it presents to the individual. It tests your endurance, your resolve to compete and to do better. In Week 5 we held our Inter-House Cross Country Carnival. Our event allowed the boys to demonstrate some wonderful attitudes. They cooperated with one another and competed with integrity. The enthusiasm of the boys was evident through the day as was their commitment to complete the run. For many it was a trial of endurance that they embraced. The Year 5 boys showed such kindness as they assisted the Year 1 boys, encouraging them to finish the one-kilometre course. What struck me most was their support of one another and their appreciation of the efforts of Mr Caniglia.

The mission to develop character is a long one. Many events and many people contribute to the finished person. This single event was one special opportunity for our boys to build upon their character and to show what fine young people they already are. Well done, to all who competed and thank you to the parents and extended family who supported them.
