Scotch - A Uniting Church School
On the 22 June The Uniting Church in Australia celebrates its 36th anniversary. It was on this day in 1977 the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational Churches officially came together.
Although not all congregations joined, the overwhelming majority did. Scotch College along with Presbyterian Ladies College, Methodist Ladies College, Wesley College, Penrhos College, St. Stephen's School and Tranby College are all communities within the Uniting Church.
Why did this happen? It was a decision that rather than focus on the issues that divide we should focus on what unites us. Faith in Jesus Christ, both his life and teachings are the foundations on which we rest. Serving within our world and supporting those in need is central to our living.
Scotch College echoes these principles, Chapel is one of a number of ways the Gospel of Jesus is presented. Students reflect this either consciously or unconsciously as they participate in various activities, whether it be academic, sport, co-curricular or Community and Service.
Jesus proclaims forgiveness for wrongs where people profess their sorrow, equality of opportunity for all and justice for those who are oppressed or disadvantaged.
We benefit from a wide variety of cultures and religious beliefs within our community and we seek to learn from each other and grow together.
