Scotch 47 defeated Trinity 43
Scotch's Year 7 B team travelled out to Trinity College last week and scored their first win of the season. Bailey Flecker kicked the first goal of the game and Scotch College managed to keep their noses in front by this margin for the rest of the game. Chris Vann was sensational in the middle and across half back, Ben Karta, Ed Boys and Johnny Marstall found the big sticks and Mitchell Evans filled multiple roles in the back and forward line particularly well. Mark of the Day went to Tom Barrett- Lennard. Goal of the Day, Ed Boys final quarter game winning goal. Play of the Day, Seb Hasluck for a diving save to deny Trinity a goal late in the game.

Scotch 102 defeated Guildford 7
Scotch started the game well and had plenty of the play. Players were disciplined at maintaining their position and as a result the forward line was more open and Scotch were able to create better scoring opportunities. 11 goals from the team in this half was a pleasing reward for the effort the boys applied all over the ground. Charles Russell and Chris Lawrence played very solid games and showed their flexibility by playing very well in attack and defense. Harry O'Donnell once again proved to be a very dangerous forward in the second half with four goals. Ben Avery and Max Grant were again superb in all areas of the ground and James McCormick continued to set the standard with his work ethic. Austin Bantock and Bowe Roads competed well in the ruck and continually gave their midfield first use of the ball and George Gibson relished some time in the midfield. Well done to Harry Tesser and Ryan Greaves who applied themselves well in this first games with the A's.

Scotch 9.6 defeated Trinity 7.6
After showing some good form against Christ Church and another good week on the track the group knew we were a red hot chance against Trinity. After flying out of the blocks with four goals to one in the first quarter it was looking like we could be in for a big return. We were using the footy well and spreading harder than the opposition on a regular basis. The second quarter the pressure was released by the boys and Trinity fought back to be within one goal at half time. The mental fade meant that is was now game on and the boys were reminded what makes us a effective team (hardness at the contest and tackling pressure). We lifted in the third term but didnt get the scoreboard reward with Jack Manners providing a real lift in the centreline. To the boys credit we finished the game off well the result went our way in an evenly matched affair. First win of the season and the result is reflective of a dramatic increase in the boys endevour and willingness to learn. Well done team.

Scotch: 8.6 (54) defeated Guildford Grammar: 6.6 (42)
An intense game saw the boys come from behind on several occasions to get a win against an underrated opposition. A few problems arose in the backline with a bustling full forward kicking some quick goals. Nick Pierson was tasked to shut the big man down and he did so whilst also being a great rebound player out of the backline. Fletcher Cummins and Tom Palmer provided too much run for Guildford around the ground with Fletcher kicking a couple of 'snagga rolls' himself. Tom Krantz provided a terrific target up forward again with Drew McCulloch always creating pressure on the Guildford backline. Scotch went in at three quarter time 13 points down but piled on 5 goals in the last to Guildford Grammar's one. Long kicking proved the difference in the game with all the Scotch midfielders putting the ball into the danger zone late in the game and keeping it locked in. The 8C's are looking very dangerous all around the ground with a group of boys that attack the ball hard and look to take the game on at every opportunity.

Scotch 13.9 defeated Guildford 9.17
The game was in the balance until the last quarter when the Scotch team really stood up and kicked away with six final quarter goals. Gibson was fantastic in the middle with some great tackling and pressure. Eastland and Pluski worked well together up forwards, kicking seven between them. As a group the back line worked well together, with lots of one on one wins. This was a great win for the B's however, there is still much to improve on going forward.

Scotch 58 defeated Aquinas 44
Scotch won the toss and kicked with a two-three goal breeze. Both sides played solid football with good tackling and run on footy. Aquinas kicked the first two goals into the breeze. Scotch replied with the next three goals by kicking the ball to the right side of the ground and opening up the play. In the second quarter, both teams got bogged down on one side of the ground, it was a tough match as both the Aquinas and Scotch backlines.
Goals: Myles Starling 2, James Porter 2, Harry Josland 1, Jack Moore 1, Ben Hutcherson 1,
David Tompkin 1 and Jack Watterson 1.
First of all I would like to thank Mr Josland for being the goal umpire and supplying the snakes. Also thanks to the ladies who supplied the oranges.
I would also like to thank the boys who played for Aquinas - David Tompkin, Matthew Viveiros, Tom D'arcy and Luke Beardsell. Goals for Aquinas - Tompkin 1,
Viveiros 1 and D'arcy 1.
Captain Jack Moore lead by example through some great tackles, hard running and good use of the ball and the rest of the team followed suit. I would like to congratulate Nick Todd in the ruck by putting his hand up to ruck under much taller opponents. James Porter who played with an ankle injury. Well done boys.

Scotch 10.9 (69) defeated Hale 6.14 (50)
A close start to the game saw scores tied at 14 quarter time. We kicked three in the second in quick succession but our defense struggled in the end of the quarter seeing Hale kick two back in the dying minutes. At half time we talked about raising the intensity and the boys delivered in the third kicking three to one in the third quarter. Clearance work from josh hall in the last quarter saw two goals to one and us holding on to a 19-point lead. It was a great win for the boys with only two players on the bench; everyone ran hard all day and met expectations throughout the game. It was a great experience for the boys to have a win on Hales main ground.

Scotch 12. 5 (77) def Guildford 10.14 (74)
The result was indicative of a tight contest between the two teams. The Scotch boys during various stages of the game showed their superior skill and ability to outplay the Guildford team however, it was unfortunately not at a consistent level. Arran Jones in his first game for the 2nd XVIII showed his fellow teammates what is required over a fourth quarter effort with regards to running and applying pressure around stoppages. Scotch applied the pressure during the second and third terms kicking four goals in each, led up forward by Woodhams and Notley with Timms and Young providing support. Our skill level dropped off late in the third quarter, heavily affecting our decision making under pressure, which allowed Guildford to kick two late goals. Heading into the last, both teams were committed to the contest, with Guildford jumping Scotch by kicking two goals early. To the boys credit, they absorbed the pressure in the back 50, much to the superb efforts of Adam Lade and managed to steal the victory in the dying minutes with a well executed goal from Young.

Scotch 27.15 (177) defeated Guildford 9.4 (58)
Round 3 provided Scotch with their first away game for the season traveling into the swan valley to compete against Guildford Grammar School. Scotch players were challenged to maintain their strong brand of footy regardless of previous weeks results and showed a real keenness for the contest in the first ten minutes, where they were strong in the clearances and put Guildford's backs under real pressure. With selfless forward movement throughout the first two quarters the efficiency in ball movement into the forward line allowed for high percentage shots on goal, resulting in a solid half time lead. The second half provided much of the same highlights as the first with the midfielders asserting their dominance and the backs now very influential in repelling the ball that came their way. The progression shown throughout the game coupled with each players willingness to compete irrelevant of the scoreboard emphasized the team takes precedence in this playing group.

Scotch, with crisp passing and superior skills, completely overwhelmed the inexperienced Guildford team. Ten minutes into the second half three Scotch players switched teams and from then on the game was even, with both goalies getting a workout. Simon Ferreira always looked dangerous in attack, Fraser Marzec showed determination in his first game with the 8A's and Lucas Sheridan showed improvement in his position play and made some good, strong tackles.

Scotch 4 defeated Guildford 1
A good game by the boys. We had our chances early and failed to capitalise on many of them. There was disappointment after conceding and going into half time only two- one up. We strengthened our defense in the second half, not letting them score. This helped us going forward and we were able to score twice more, to take the game 4-1

Scotch 3 defeated Guildford 1
While the result was encouraging the performance was disappointing on a very difficult field. We scored two early goals and then one from a corner in the second half. Will MacLeod worked hard and Tim Andrew looked dangerous in the final third. Guildford were quick upfront and got a goal back from a counter attack late inn the game

Guildford 21 defeated Scotch 17
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory accurately summed up the feeling in the squad at the final whistle. Having seemingly battled their way to victory Scotch very much let this one get away. It is never easy to go to Guildford and win. The first half was a tight affair, Guildford with their greater physicality tried to bash and crash their way forward with a very narrow game plan and for large amounts of the game Scotch were sucked in to playing the same way. Defense dominated, with Scotch reluctant to kick for territory Guildford often found themselves with a launch pad to attack. When Scotch moved the ball they looked dangerous and after a number of raids into the Guildford 22 Harry Ayers finally skipped over after good work from Josh Parker. Guildford having been denied for so long scored almost immediately, after a penalty for holding on, Guildford pursuing their approach one out rugby finally ploughed their way over and added the extras. The message was clear at half time, and Scotch duly answered moving the ball at pace and opening holes all over the field. Bomber Markwell was the first to benefit, scything through the Guildford line before out pacing the cover defence. Hanlin added the extras. Scotch had begun to exert their style of play on Guildford and were next to score with Josh Parker bulldozing over his opponent to score after great work from Oliver Heath at the breakdown and slick handling from the backs. The score remained 17 - 7 deep into the half but unfortunately Scotch shut up shop ten minutes too early! A lack of concentration, some missed first up tackles and a lop sided penalty count allowed Guildford to barge their way forward one pass at a time. Two tries in five minutes completely changed the game and from position of superiority Scotch were now chasing. Despite a late charge Scotch could not control the ball well enough and Guildford held out for victory.

Guildford 55 defeated Scotch 10
Guildford was definitely the better team on the day but the scoreline did not reflect how competitive the team was for large periods of time. Guildford had the lion's share of possession, which meant that Scotch spent most of the time tackling. To the teams credit the tackling is improving game by game. In the forwards Andre Christian carried the ball well and gave us good go forward while Siu-Dong Li's made a lot of mostly good tackles. The locks Liam Hodgeson and Blair Gauld are improving each week and Blair scored the team's first try, which was also our first points of the season. Blair was chosen as the best forward of the match. The loosies, Michael Aitken, Angus McLarty and Henry Gillett tackled themselves to a standstill and are developing a good combination. Angus in particular was still running hard at the end of the game and had a number of strong carries. Charles Finn unfortunately had to leave the field with injury which was a pity as he was succeeding in causing chaos atGuildford's ruck. In the backs Harry Washington was identified as best back as his passing from the base has improved and in the second half he was makingsome important tackles. At flyhalf Jordan McEwen is starting to read the game and kicked sensibly, but unfortunately he too was injured as he was defending channel one stoutly. Fergus Walsh and Rob Steadman in the centres saw little attacking ball, but Fergus did make good ground when given the opportunity and Rob showed good footwork. On the wing Tarquinn Brownley is reading the gamemuch better while Captain of the Day, Digby Cornuel-Rees led by example on defense and is quick when given some space. Lewis Buchanan is growing into the role of fullback as he develops his positional sense. Despite the score line the team are improving and there is a great feeling of camaraderie. Thanks must go to the Year 10s who acted as substitutes especially Harry Ayers who scored a cracking try at the end of the match. Also thanks to Jordan McEwen's Dad who delivered a very encouraging post match review.
Best forward: Blair Gauld
Best Back: Harry Washington

Guildford 53 defeated Scotch 12
There was a notable absence of captain Andrew Yin through an injured shoulder, and Vincent Carter was out of action with a suspected fractured jaw. Scotch made a strong start to the match, the worked hard at every contest, and they even managed to score their first tries of the season thanks to Daniel Bloch. The forwards applied great pressure at the set plays, and managed to turn over several Guilford lineouts, and even a couple of scrums. Guilford was able to take advantage of missed tackles and increase their lead out of Scotch's reach.
Scotch's misfortune continued as Alain Dutton received a heavy concussion early on, and Charlie Grant was sent off with a red card for a dangerous tackle. Overall Scotch played very well, they showed improvements in structure, set plays, and ball security, and the next time these two sides meet, there will be a much closer result.

Congratulations to the Year 7 B's who backed up their first victory of the season last week with a sensational four- nill win.
After starting the match one player down, all players responded with the roles they were given and were rewarded with the opening goal a few minutes before half time. The 7 B's continued to control possession in the second half with Joshua Dyson scoring a hat trick and Kai Marinko slotting his first goal of the season. Well played boys.

Scotch 8A side scored a resounding 9-0 victory over Guildford Grammar. The scorers were, Sam (3), Matt (2), Raghav (2), Lewis & Lachy. Even though the result looks very one sided, I do believe our boys played very well as Guildford had better players than the score might suggest.

Scotch 5 defeated Guildford 3
Our first away game of the season was at Guildford Grammar. The Guildford boys started strongly and scored early in the first half. Elliot Buzza scored for Scotch from a penalty, after one of our boys was brought down in the penalty area. The Guildford boys, who were much taller and more physical than the Scotch boys, continued to control the midfield and scored a second goal. However, just before half time, Joshua Boyce penetrated the penalty area and scored a great goal for Scotch. The start of the second half, the Scotch boys stepped up the tempo and started to pass the ball a lot better. They started to gain control of the game. Joshua Boyce scored again to put Scotch in front. Guildford scored another goal against the run of play to level the match. At this stage the Scotch boys were controlling the game in all areas. They started to believe in themselves. Elliot Buzza took a shot a long way outside the penalty area and scored a great goal. This was followed by another fantastic goal from Joshua Boyce to make the final result; Scotch 5, Guildford 3.

Scotch College 11 defeated Guildford Grammar 2
In an overwhelming performance, Scotch College 3rds defeated Guildford Grammar with a ruthless performance up front. Incredibly, no hat-tricks were scored, with nine different players scoring all 11 goals, including an own goal in the dying minutes of the match. Matthew Calvetti and Alex Lolev both bagged two goals, Nick Steiner-Preis, David Atwell, Nish Krishnan scoring one and three outside-the-box screamers, each coming from Aaron Bansal, Nick Olivares and Jack Ormerod from a free-kick. The boys should be proud of their performance, especially in light of recent difficulty in finding the back of the net.

Scotch 8 defeated Guildford 1
Scotch notched up their first win of the season with a comfortable eight-one victory against Guildford. The match began slowly, with both teams evenly matched for the first 25 minutes. Dean Millen-McDonald then was bought onto the pitch with immediate effect, putting two goals in the back of the net in the space of five minutes. Oscar Jungsted provided plenty up front and after winning yet another 50-50 contest he was brought down heavily in the box to be awarded a penalty. Unfortunately, for Oscar the challenge injured his shoulder and he was to take no further part in the game, and on his birthday too. After halftime Scotch lifted in intensity and began to dominate the game. Goals to Paris Young, Kalle Palmer, Sam Bruce (2), Lachlan Chapman and Dean (hattrick) ensured Scotch's victory. A solid defensive effort by our four defenders ensured Guildford were well held up front. A good all round team performance.

Scotch 5 defeated Guildford 3
The Scotch 1st XI maintained their position at the top of the ladder with a well deserved victory at Guildford. Tas Mitaros, who was to prove a constant thorn in the side of the Guildford defence, sped away from his marker after only two minutes & shot past the keeper at his near post. Scotch were the better side throughout the first half, but lacked a cutting edge to finish of our opponents. The 2nd half was only eight seconds old when that elusive cutting edge was found, as great pressure from the Scotch forward line seen Guildford lose position in a dangerous area & Tas Mitaros once again left his defender in his wake to drive in the 2nd goal. Two minutes later & Alex Triglavcanin made it three nill with a drive into the roof of the net from the edge of the box after Guildford failed to clear a Scotch set piece. Ten minutes into the second half and the game seemed to be all over after Harrison Patten-Williams shot from 30 yards beat the goalkeeper. Guildford to their credit continued to battle & they reduced the deficit to four-one with a free header from a corner. Almost immediately, Scotch restored their four goal cushion when the keeper saved a header from Alex Triglavcanin & Yannick Livingstone was on hand to head the rebound over the line. Once again, Guildford responded in a positive fashion & scored two late consolation goals to make the score look more respectable. Thursday we have Trinity visiting & I'm sure our boys are ready for a classic encounter.

Firstly congratulations to Doug Foulkes-Taylor placing 2nd in the State School Boy Championship in the Open Division and to Kyle Newman placing 11th in the U/17 Age Group. Both Doug and Kyle are outstanding motivated runners who train exceptionally hard. Our run against Guildford was an outstanding effort reflecting a courageous team effort from every runner. The boys are training very hard and learning to push themselves to exhaustion in the races. I was very proud of the team. After running 6kms flat out in the State Championship the previous day, Doug won the race by exactly a minute and broke the record by 4 seconds. Doug inspires the whole team with the way he runs his races and the pep talks he gives the boys. Kyle Newman (3rd), Harry Wiffen (5th), Denver Quantrill (7th), Alex Brown (8th), Josh Jones (9th), Abe Potter (10th), Angus McLeod (12th), Chase Deitner (13th), Jack Varney (17th), Arrigo Brackenridge (18th), Fletcher Wolpers (20th), Campbell Shaw (22nd) and Ryan Hare (23rd) all ran exceptional races, They are all naturally gifted runners and with hard training will continue to improve. Alex Smith (28th), Dylan Flecker (39th), Cam Green (40th), Lawson Shaw (40th) and Tom Walker (47th) have all shown remarkable improvement in recent weeks and will continue to benefit with experience of running race. Once again a very special thanks to the large group of Year 9 runners who continue to train and compete with the team. Without your efforts we would not have a team. So continue to improve with each run making us a competitive team. All of you are boys of great character. This week we have Trinity at home.
