Aquinas College 78 defeated Scotch College 31
The Year 7A Football team took to the field with Aquinas College for the first game of season. A strong display by the defense, led by Will Lowson and Charlie Bulleid kept Aquinas to one goal. Aquinas booted five goals to no score and went into halftime with a lead of 30 points. Scotch came back hard in the third as Adam Brenz-Verca, Charlie Harding, Will Lowson and Kade Lines took over in the centre. Nick Ryan was a standout in the backline. The fourth quarter was a tough quarter for both teams and Scotch defense, led by Nick Ryan, put up a good fight but in the end Aquinas won by seven goals.

Aquinas 12.13 (85) defeated Scotch 1.3 (9)
It was a tough day for the 7B's playing against a bigger and faster Aquinas College team. Tom Barrett-Lenanrd battled hard in the middle all game and most often was found on the bottom of each pack. Jono Prior was a clear winner when moved into the ruck and Edward Boys and Jon Marstall off the half back line where stars continually winning the contested football. Goal of the Day was Josh Spadanuda, on the run from half forward, Mark of the Day was Chad Perche.

Scotch 49 defeated Aquinas 39
Scotch struggled to apply scoreboard pressure as the strong wind played havoc and at half time Scotch trailed by 10 points. James McCormick was superb throughout the entire quarter with his work rate setting a great example to his teammates. Scotch gained more control of the game and for the first 10 minutes of the third term The midfield had been superb with Jack, James and Rigby Dowland proving very dangerous. Scotch continued to look dangerous and a couple of goals for the term saw Scotch win by 10 points. It was a very good win against a good team.

Aquinas 20.7 defeated Scotch 0.1
Contested football was the biggest concern for the team and we will work hard in the upcoming weeks to improve our technique and mindset in the contested situation. A big game against Christ Church Grammar School this week and hopefully we can record a win and kick start the season.

Aquinas 43 defeated Scotch 19
Scotch put in a good honest effort, but it felt like we were caught on our heels for large sections of the game. Some great individual efforts by Yukio Chaplin and Hugo Couslon in particular will serve as great examples to the team about the level of intensity that is required to win at PSA level. We look forward to the challenge against Christ Church Grammar School.

Scotch 45 defeated Aquinas 39
Scotch got off to a fantastic start with continuous forward 50 entries. At 3 quarter time the game hung in the balance. The team that stuck to their structures and worked hard would take out the victory. In a see-soaring last quarter both teams played spirited and physical football. It was goal for goal in the last 10 minutes of the game the scores level with 2 minutes to go. A fantastic series of desperate and determined football, Scotch managed to kick the sealing goal with a minute remaining on the clock. Scotch Eventually prevailed by a goal. It was a memorable victory and a great way to start off the 2013 season.

Aquinas 79 defeated Scotch 70
Scotch had a hard fought last quarter with both teams giving it there all. It was great to watch but Aquinas College came away winners by nine points. Individual performance; Cribb, Charlie and Wilson were fantastic down back.

Trinity 130 defeated Scotch 27
Trinity took control early as Scotch took a while to settle down. Although the Scotch boys tried hard, they were being out classed, as the second quarter was much the same as the first. After half time Scotch gained a bit of confidence but were continually under pressure by Trinity.
In the last quarter the boys lifted to kick 2 goals to Trinity's 3 goals.

Scotch 22.18 (150) defeated Aquinas 2.3 (15)
Scotch started well in the first quarter with goals to Mclaren and Brown in the opening five minutes. We possessed the ball well and ran in numbers allowing for overlaps to form on the field. We kept building throughout the match and found ourselves keeping them goals less in the 1st and 3rd quarter. McLaren ended the game with 6 goals, Lucanas and Young had five each and Brown with four. Bantock and Schulz ran well all day and gave us good delivery into the forward line to allow our falls a chance to kick such big hauls. Our defensive line held up well against most attacks but the goals that aquinas scored we from players not being accountable in the back half and then getting hurt from a quick turn over and overlap. Although it was such a good win there are still things to work on next week and build on for our more challenging games.

Scotch played well dominating the entire game. They started strong scoring goals and locking Wesley College into their defensive half. Not until the second half did Wesley manage to break out and give themselves a goal scoring opportunity but this was short lived. All in all scotch played well dominating the game and keeping Wesley off the scoreboard

A great display from the boys, beating what is one of the toughest teams in the PSA. Aquinas College put pressure on our defense from the first whistle, and we were lucky not to go behind, with great goalkeeping from Will Stewart keeping us in the game. We fought back hard and were all over them in the late stages of the first half, and went into the break 0-0. The team stepped up the intensity in the second half, with goals to Jack Keily and Josh Evans giving us a great lead. Aquinas scored with four minutes remaining, but we were able to hold out and claim victory.

Aquinas 3 defeated Scotch 0
Scotch College started strongly against a very good Aquinas College side but found ourselves under early pressure and we were helped in defense by excellent goalkeeping from George McGeoch. We had some chances but were unable to get away good shots at goal. Eventually they scored a good penalty corner goal, and on the stroke of Half time came down our left side and scored a fine goal from in close. Despite better composure from us in the second period we were unable to score and they added a third after defensive hesitation on the left. George McGeoch was our best player but credit to Jack Dowland, Hugh Whitewood and Jackson Ferri in particular for tough defensive work.

Scotch 61 defeated Aquinas 0
The 7A's first hit out in the 2013 PSA competition was a great success as we ran out comfortable victors 61-0. Jack Knobel opening the scoring off the kick-off with his first touch of the ball rounding the Aquinas College back-line to score down the left hand touchline. Enthusiasm and urgency saw scotch dominate at the breakdown and the forwards were regularly rewarded with points following numerous raids on the Aquinas line, Sean Szaleck crossed for a double while Connor O'Sullivan also made his way onto the scoring sheet. Strong forward play was matched by the elusive backs, who broke tackles regularly. Outside centre Peter Stulpner was impressive, scoring a hat-trick while Kieran Shine and Archie Capon also contributed with tries of their own. Oscar Lane and Ben Kelly were both unlucky not to be rewarded tries following some dubious decisions and a stray foot on the dead ball line. Josh Quaertermaine impressed in his first game scoring on debut. Our defense throughout the game was impressive, keeping Aquinas to zero and not letting them into our half.

Scotch 31 defeated Aquinas 17
An excellent first hit out against a very big and physical team. With four boys on rugby debut we where in charge from the early minutes.
Excellent work at the break down and at scrum time allowed good front football. Max and Callum working very hard and enjoying the results.
The backs benefited with Ben, Mikey and Lachy on Debut outstanding in providing go forward ball. JP, slippery as a wet snake, managed to sneak over for a nicely worked try. An excellent performance and a good benchmark set for the season.

Scotch Year 10A 44 defeated Aquinas Scotch Barbarians 5
There is a huge amount of depth in this squad and this was reflected in the quality of rugby played by all boys. The A's just had a little too much pace and with Mac Hanlin directing operations the A's ability to move the ball at speed proved the difference. Wing, Harry Ayers raced in for three very well constructed tries and with the powerful forward pack ably led by Bomber Markwell and Ben Corser a constant supply of high quality ball was made available. Midfield duo, George Houston and Josh Bennie displayed adept handling skills in wet conditions and the 'Flying Machine' Grant Szalek and the rampaging Josh Parker ate up the ground out wide. To their credit the Barbarians showed great endeavor and heart and were finally rewarded with a multiple phase try at the death. It was great to get the first game under the belt and with all boys playing in a competitive game there are genuine opportunities for boys to put forward their case for selection in the A's. Christ Church Grammar School however, will provide a much sterner test this week and with that in mid training has certainly lifted considerably in intensity.

Aquinas 24 defeated Scotch 0
This year we have a very small numbers of players and so it will require a full team effort week in week out. Although we lost the first match, there is potential for improvement. In the forwards Hans Taylor in only his second game battled manfully at prop and is growing into his role. Andre Christian did well on his side of the scrum and had some good barging runs. Siu-Dong Li had a much better second half as his tackling improved while Michael Aitken was good in the lineout and was industrious at the breakdown. Liam Hodgkinson, despite picking up a knock, quickly returned to the field while Blair Gauld added a deal of grunt in the second row. Many thanks to the Year 10s who acted as reserves for our side. Despite the score line, for much of the game the two sides were quite evenly matched and good endeavor was shown. Given time we will improve.

Aquinas 22 defeated Scotch 6
The match commenced with high intensity, and Scotch College was rewarded with a penalty shortly after kick-off, which was converted by Alain Dutton, giving Scotch an early lead. The large Aquinas College side challenged a 'rusty' Scotch defence and they were able to cross the line multiple times throughout the match. The main goals for the team were to demonstrate commitment and perseverance throughout the whole game, and they made an exceptional effort the achieved these tasks. There were no standout performers for this game, each member of the team put in 100%, and while there is room for improvement in areas, the team has shown that there is certainly potential for a solid season.

Scotch 7 defeated Aquinas 0
The boys had a great start to the season with a very solid win. We saw a very skillful display of sharp passing and passing forward into space. Josh Hook finished with a hat-trick. Lachlan Cumming, Callum, Caleb and Josh Fisher also chipped in with one each. The defensive line kept it very tight with them limited to only a number of shot for the game. All in all a great team effort and a very solid platform to start the season.

A solid first up performance by the Year 7 B's Soccer team. Despite the score line, all players demonstrated an appetite for hard work and ran the game out well. Congratulations to Lewis Helliwell for an inspiring performance in the midfield. Well done Boys.

Aquinas 3 defeated Scotch 2
Aquinas College only has eight players, so we gave them three Scotch College Boys to even the numbers up. Scotch dominated the first half and after a penalty conversion by Nim, were one nill at half time. Billy Corbett added another after half time to make it 2-0. Unfortunately, the boys we gave to Aquinas kicked into gear, scoring twice to make the final score 3-2.

Aquinas 2 defeated Scotch 0
The Scotch boys had a good first half and came close to scoring on two occasions. With the added challenge of having to become quickly familiar with each other's playing style, the boys were unfortunate to lose 0-2. Despite losing the game, the boys' determined attitude on the pitch was always consistent.

Scotch 3 defeat Aquinas 0
Great start to the season for the 9C team. Aquinas College started the game strong with several early attempts at goal. Harrison Banfield worked hard to stop them scoring. Scotch College quickly found their feet and fought back. Lachlan Ashdown scored the first goal making it 1-0 at half time. Scotch maintained control of the second half with Rhys Williams scoring 2 goals.

Trinity 3 defeated Scotch 2
The Scotch 9D's began the game very well, and kept the very skillful Trinity 8D's locked in their own half for long periods of the first half, however couldn't make the pressure tell with a goal, and near the end of the half a Trinity break occurred, with a very fast Trinity boy running in behind the Scotch defense and scoring the goal beyond stand-in Scotch keeper Tim. To Scotch's credit we fought back to make it 3-2, but a late Trinity goal sealed a valiant effort from the Scotch boy's who fought very bravely till the end.

The boys played their hearts out, holding a strong majority of possession and territorial dominance over the visitors until an unlucky own goal with 20 minutes to go. The boys kept fighting and dominating a game that was seemingly theirs, but the ball just wouldn't go in the back of the net due to either poor finishing or fantastic defending from Aquinas College. Throwing the whole team forward, Scotch College was caught on the counter-attack in the last minute of the game for Aquinas to wrap it up. The boys should be proud of their performance and the style of football they executed but unfortunately it just wasn't to be.

Trailing two-nill at half time, Scotch created better chances in the second half and where unlucky not to score. Final result waere three-nill to Aquinas College. Best players for Scotch were, Ben Hansen-Knarhoi and Tom Jeffries. Scotch will look forward to an improved effort against Christ Church Grammar next week.

Scotch 4 defeated Aquinas 0
A fantastic strike from 25 yards by Aman Nasir opened the scoring and a bullet header from Alex Triglavcanin from a Kelvin Wang corner saw Scotch College take a two-nill lead into the break. Shortly after the, Tas Mitaros sped away from the Aquinas defense a placed his shot into the far corner. Aquinas received a very dubious penalty following a superb Sam Jacklyn goaline clearance. Tom Gilmore capped of a great goalkeeping display with a memorable save from the penalty. Kelvin Wang rounded off a strong Scotch performance with a well worked late goal to see Scotch home as 4-0 winners.

While Aquinas College easily defeated our team, there are many positives to take from the run. Congratulations to both Doug Foulkes-Taylor on being named Captain, and Alex Smith as Vice-Captain. Doug is truly an amazingly talented athlete who trains extremely hard while Alex sets a great example by the way he trains and competes. Both boys will be excellent leaders. Against a very strong Aquinas team there were three stand out runners: Doug Foulkes-Taylor (2nd), Kyle Newman (4th) and Denver Quantrill. Doug led for the majority of the race, only to be passed near the finish by Jonas Aranda, an Australian ranked athlete. Doug's time of 15:02 was outstanding. Kyle gives his absolute best every time he competes and Saturday was no exception. To place 4th against Aquinas is a special effort and reward for his hard training over the summer. Denver's 6th place was amazing. I knew he was good, but not that good. He sprinted the last 200 metres to narrowly edge out a very talented runner. Harry Wiffen (11th), Josh Jones (16th), Abe Porter (21st), Fletcher Wolpers (22nd), Alex Brown (23rd), and Daniel Fletcher (24th), all ran excellent races, setting a fast pace early and maintaining it until the end. Ryan Hare (26th), Riley Walker (27th), Chase Deitner (28th), and Angus McLeod ran as a group pushing themselves all the way. Along with Arrigo Brackenridge (32nd), Campbell Shaw (33rd), Emerson Carlberg (42nd), Cameron Green (48th), Dylan Flecker (52nd) and Tom Walker (55th) they will improve considerably with hard training and the experience of running 5km. There is a huge amount of athlete talent in the team. We are capable of doing so well against strong teams.
