Music Scholarships for 2013
Music scholarships to the value of free tuition at the School in one musical instrument are offered to boys entering Years 7 in 2014. The scholarship does not cover the hire of an instrument or other associated charges. Scholarships may be held for up to five years, but the continuation from year to year will be subject to an annual review of the boy's progress and attitude. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of performance on a particular instrument and understanding of the music performed in an audition. For further information regarding Scholarships please see the Scholarships section in this Newsletter.
The Junior Schoolclasses have begun the year excitedly with our new member of Staff, Ms Phebe Samson. The classroom performing arts programme, which now encompasses Music, Dance and Drama, should be exciting and engaging for all boys. The Junior School Vocal Ensemble - formerly known as the JS Choir - (Years 3-5 on Friday morning) and The Performing Arts Club - formerly known as the Developmental Choir (Years 1-2 on Monday lunchtime) commenced their rehearsals in week two with new names and structures. New members are always welcome. Junior School Music enquiries can be emailed to PSamson@scotch.wa.edu.au.
Middle School classes have also begun their new programmes with concert band instruments being delivered to the Year 6 boys and class groupings organised for Year 7 boys. We have now received a huge number of world music instruments, acoustic guitars and electric keyboards that will be regularly used within Middle School classes. Scotch Youth Voices - formerly known as the Middle School Choir, is preparing for their upcoming tours to Fairbridge and Tasmania. Any boys who are keen singers are welcome to join this revitalised ensemble that rehearses each Wednesday morning. Middle School Music enquiries can be emailed to JPSullivan@scotch.wa.edu.au.
Early Learning Music (ELM)
An Early learning Music Programme known as ELM is delivered in the Junior School Music Room each Saturday morning during the term. Designed for boys and girls of ages 3 and up, the programme develops musicianship skills through singing, movement and musical games drawing on each participants' innate musical ability. An alternative session is delivered off campus in Subiaco on Mondays. An excellent programme available to all, for details please email sulljp@scotch.wa.edu.au.
Friends of Scotch Music (FOSM), a group of parents who enthusiastically support the work of boys and staff in the Music Department, is meeting on the following dates throughout the year. 13 May, 17 June, 29 July, 21 October. All meetings begin at 7.00pm, go for approximately one hour, and are held in the Senior School Music Room with everyone welcome. Please consider becoming involved in the FOSM parent support group.
